Official launch of Africa Development Club Egypt by Attijariwafa bank

Cairo, May 12, 2019 - The Africa Development Club Egypt (ADC Egypt) by Attijariwafa bank group with Attijariwafa bank Egypt was officially launched today in Egypt at a Sohour event in Cairo that was attended by a number of senior officials from the government, private sector, business CEOs, African Ambassadors to Egypt, as well as more than 300 of top customers.

With the presence and patronage of Mr. Mohammed El Kettani, Chairman of Attijariwafa bank group, Mr. El Kettani highlighted that launching the African Development Club in Egypt is yet another bridge of economic opportunities between Egypt and other African countries, and meets the aspirations of Africa’s business sectors, traders and entrepreneurs in terms of sharing their experiences, exploring new partnerships and transferring skills.

The Head of Attijariwafa bank group’s Africa Development Club, Ms. Mouna Kadiri, also highlighted that Africa Development Club, founded by Attijariwafa bank group, aims to foster trade within Africa and promote South-South cooperation. Fully aware of the developmental challenges faced by the African continent in social and economic terms, its approach to growth is solidarity-based, adopting a humanitarian vision of economic development.

“The launch of the Africa Development Club Egypt branch consolidates the network of this platform at the service of the economic actors involved in the development of the continent. It is the 10th branch of the Club, led by Attijariwafa bank Egypt, with Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mali, Mauritania, Tunisia, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo Brazzaville, and Morocco. It thus provides Egyptian companies with services for their development on the continent and also promotes investment opportunities in Egypt to the economic communities of other countries of Africa.”

On her side, Ms. Halla Sakr, Managing Director of Attijariwafa bank Egypt, stated that this launch further promotes African and regional economic integration which comes in line with Egypt’s Presidency of the African Union. The Africa Development Club acts as another key driver to enhance sustainable growth and economic development in African markets.

“In 2018, Attijariwafa bank Egypt increased its Trade Finance volumes to reach 1.7 billion USD; a 30% increase from 2017. The bank aims to increase its trade portfolio by 50% this year in line with the country’s strategic vision to increase exports and trade to Africa, which comes naturally based on the Group’s strong presence in 15 African countries”, said Tamer Ragheb- Corporate Banking Director.

The launch comes following a very successful sixth edition of the International Africa Development Forum organized by the Group in Casablanca in March 2019, where more than forty of the bank Egyptian customers attended and conducted 600 business to business matchmaking sessions.
